Transformers Rise of the Beasts hit theaters on June 9th 2023. The litlgeeks and I saw Rise of the Beasts…June 9th 2023! And we LOVED it! Now, admittedly, I’m an old world, Generation 1 Transformers fan to the bone. After the initial overwhelming feeling of glee seeing my big bots on screen through the Bayverse movies through 2000s and early 2010s, I have to be honest. The glee turned into, this just isn’t working. So, when Bumblebee came out just a few years ago, and promised to restore some of the glory of Transformers, and delivered, that was big for me, and big for the litlgeeks. Building off of that restoration, with a head of steam, Rise of the Beasts dares to go further, to expand the universe, and even to bring other universes in line with Transformers on screen! While I can’t wait to see what is next out of the movie series, Hasbro has us along for the ride with some amazing Rise of the Beasts figures and role play toys to continue all of the Rise of the Beasts fun at home! They kindly sent us a massive box filled with said figures and toys for free to share with you, our friends out there on the internet. So buckle up! We’ve got a lot of amazing stuff to see!

We are nothing if not honest here at litlgeeks, and I will be with you now. We weren’t going to get Ratchet. But, we really wanted Wheelie, and the fastest way to get him for us, was with Ratchet through Big Bad Toy Store. So we did that. And after spending some time with Ratchet, I’d buy him again in a heartbeat. In fact, we will be on the look out for core class Iron Hide when he hopefully, eventually drops. But we are here to talk about Ratchet today, and Hasbro did an outstanding job of turning him tiny!

We loved the main line Ratchet because it did a great job of looking…like Ratchet. Well, This Core Class version does an equally great job of looking like our on screen 86 movie Ratchet, except, much smaller!
He moves really well for a small bot
He comes with his iconic dual pistols
The medic / Autobot logos are present on his shoulders as they should be
His head / face sculpt, which is most important, is dead on accurate!
In Alt Mode:
He turns into a medical van / ambulance, and looks great doing it, though, there are some gaps
It’s also a little bit of a struggle to get all of the connection points to stay together
He looks like Ratchet’s on screen alt mode!
Transformation
15 steps from Bot to Alt, and a few are a little fiddly when it comes to tabbing in, but it’s definitely easy enough for a fidget toy!

Another step closer to having the gang back together with our new Dinobot friend, 86′ Series Sludge! Sludge is the largest of the Dinobots, one of the most fun, and has long been on our 86 want list. So we are excited that Hasbro has delivered in a big way here! 3 down (Grimlock, Slug, Sludge), 2 to go (Swoop and Snarl), very excited to let the litlgeeks check out this big boy for us today!!

For a big fella he’s very articulated in bot mode, and you can pose him out very well
Includes his blaster (screen accurate)
Includes a movie scene inspired in package backdrop
In Alt Mode:
He’s a giant flippin’ dinosaur!!
That beautiful goofy Sludge dino face is perfect
He moves just like a dinosaur
Can he do the sploot? He can!!!
Transformation
Sludge transforms in 31 steps very simple and quick steps!
Smooth transformation
Solid and clean finish on tabs and slots, everything fits
Note – we mention in the video, there is a gap underneath, that gap is meant to be filled with the feet

Perceptor is one of the bots we absolutely couldn’t wait to get our hands on when he was announced. Heck, when Studio Series 86′ was announced, Perceptor, a true G1 animated movie style Perceptor was our greatest wish from the line, and now, he’s here! And he’s pretty much perfect!

The eye piece mounted on his shoulder looks outstanding, I love the way that it’s mounted, and the mount has a great ratchet to it, will stay wherever and however you put it
He’s highly pose-able, Perceptor can move however you need
Just an outstanding rendition of this iconic, G1 / 86′ Movie bot!
In Alt Mode:
Microscope mode is perfect!
The tray folds out, you can point the eye piece at it just right
Excellent balance in microscope mode
You can see through the view finder, but it is not a functioning multi-lense scope, and the focus knob does not do anything or move
Tank mode is a neat extra option
Transformation
Perceptor’s transformation is 95% shoudlers, and 5% legs, and it’s really quite clever
The shoulders move down, the arms swivel up and tab in, the scope and alternate shoulder click in together nicely, and the legs flip around
The manual says 20 steps but it feels like 3, that’s pretty cool!

Fans of Transformers The Movie rejoice! We now have, an exceptional, screen accurate Junkion to add to our collection from Hasbro! The Studio Series 86′ Wreck-Gar does a phenomenal job of paying homage to the Weird Al sound-tracked, TV talking, Eric Idle voiced bot that just won’t stay down! He looks great in bot mode, great in alt mode, and he’s as much fun as he is on screen! I do have one complaint up front though….and that is…that we will likely never get the dozen Junkions we want to hang out with Wreck-Gar!

The best, most screen accurate Wreck-Gar I’ve seen in Hasbro plastic, bar none
Included wheels and axe accessories fit perfectly and look great
The handlebar mustache, the soul patch, excellent
He’s got a modular look to him which is perfect for the character (is not modular beyond wheels)
The spikes and chest ….blasters? 🙂 look great
Highly pose-able
Saddle bags on the belt look perfect!
Coloring, which is so critical is nailed by Hasbro here
In Alt Mode:
Do you get two Wreck-Gars, so he can ride himself? I think that’s a sound idea
Alt mode / motorcycle mode is slick as all heck, and captures the screen look very well!
Wheels spin!
I love the little kickstand!
Clear plastic wind screen brings me great joy
The recessed headlight looks excellent
Transformation
22 quick and easy steps gets you from bot to bike and back
Wheels and axe are added / removed in transformation
Really fun transformation here, simple too!
As with Dinobot Slug, and most of the other 86′ SS figures, there is always at least one neat trick or two. Wreck-Gar’s head folds up into his console and everything folds on top of it, so cool!

Today is a glorious day, because we get to add another MASSIVE Dinobot to our Transformers collection. Now, the last go round, the Dinos were made small to be a part of Volcanicus. V was neat, but …the Dinos are meant to be huge. So, I consider what Hasbro is doing with the Studio Series 86′ Dinobots to be an exceptional course correction, led by their ‘king’ Grimlock, who is by far the best Dinobot mainline plastic to date. Does Slug join him ably? Or does he get stomped by Devastator? Well, quick spoiler, he does not get stomped. He really just makes me even more eager for Hasbro to finish out the 86′ Movie Dinos with Swoop, Sludge, and a Bonus Snarl?

This is the screen accurate Slug we’ve always wanted and deserved!
That face! Absolutely love it!
Very well articulated, lots of posing options available
He has that screen perfect blaster!
His back effects are excellent, he’s got the wing / back pieces extended to look screen accurate
Love how the Dino head covers his bot head here
In Alt Mode:
Triceratops mode is outstanding!
He looks like he did on screen!
He moves like he did on screen!
His jaw is articulated
Lots of great detail included / sculpted onto the body pieces like side blasters and mechanical piping
Transformation
Intuitive, fun, and it pays homage to the on screen transformation, you can’t ask for much more out of the fun of transformation!
Transforms in 32 steps
More Studio Series Trickery makes for a fun transformation, the back legs fold out of his actual legs in a really cool Voltron like fashion, and then the way you clear out his chest cavity and then the shoulders collapse in, very, very awesome!
Love the way the gun becomes the tail!
Daniel
Daniel’s Exosuit looks great but…
There is no face detail, clear top with a head inside, no sticker on it, it’s just plain white, that’s a little bit of a bummer
He is more a prop here, less a figure, he’s meant to sit on Slug, and does not feature any articulation at the knees to be able to stand straight up
